i suppose this is mostly for me but hey why not ask for others who don't live exactly in Kyoto--

How much have people in other parts of Kansai gotten word/an idea of what's going on?

Word travels pretty fast, especially since the weather would have been mentioned on any radio or internet weather report, seeing as snow piling up in Kyoto is pretty rare. People may have even traveled out to see it, only to quickly flee when they realized it was just continuing to pile up.

Likewise, the trains getting stopped up would have a noticeable ripple effect, since Kyoto is very much a hub for other stations. The snow may also fall in nearby cities, but not to the same extent as Kyoto.

In other words, unless you live under a rock, anyone in Nippon would have some idea of what is happening.

For the weird window-mirrors, does anything particular happen if they're broken or do they just shatter like whatever type of glass they are?

They just shatter like glass, and the reflective effects will disappear! But whoever owns the building probably won't appreciate having their window broken in the middle of a magical snowstorm.

Can the crystalflowers be destroyed via sword? Or just heat? Do they grow back immediately if they can be destroyed?

Yes, they can! They're actually rather fragile, but stepping on them is probably not a good idea because the stems are sharp like very thin icicles.

They take about a day to regrow, so someone could easily destroy a little clearing of them if they wanted.
