Activity Check and Feedback
Activity check for July has been processed!
If you failed AC, don't worry! You can just reapply right away.
Remember, you only need to make your AC top-level the month you're accepted. You will need to reply to it every month afterward to stay in the game. You can reply at any any point during the month, even right now!
As an added reminder: while submitting activity is not required for AC, you must stay active! I have tagged all posts on the Log and Network comms three months back, and will ask for activity from players if I cannot find any threads tagged within the past two months.
Being asked for activity is not a reflection of how active a player is, as I cannot realistically track backtagged threads, TDM threads, or threads in character inboxes! Thank you for understanding!

I'm not affected by it myself, but I really do have to say I don't like seeing "I'm going to be asking for proofs for people who've been inactive" but not giving any insight at all to what you're going to be asking for. As a result I can't say if I would feel it's harsh or reasonable, since I'm just reading this now.
Additionally, while I recognise that the information has been in the faq and such for some time, to my knowledge this is the first time it's being actually invoked. That invocation, without anything that I can find on the comms mentioning it within at least the last 4 months, similarly feels abrupt - especially if there's any penalty beyond being asked to reapp (another bit of information we just don't get to know, thus far). It's coming up at the end of the month and requiring information from people who had never seen this be part of an AC before, so effectively it does feel like a complete blindside.
I don't have a problem with the rules themselves, but this application of them does not feel good, to me. And again, I know the literature has been there in the pages, but without knowing who is being exempt from it (is it those who've only been here 4 months or more since you mentioned going back the last 3? Is it reset if you failed ac? How do hiatuses factor in? I have about a billion questions), with the very vague "may be" tacked onto the explanations, along with the fact that this has never, to my knowledge, actually been done before? I feel like it's extremely probable that people feel frustrated by finding out after the entire month that, despite things not being a big deal before, they're now going to be penalised for their inactivity and/or circumstances, absolutely without warning because the ac results has never included this information before now and there was no announcement of it in the last 3 months (unless I've missed something, which is possible).

You don't have to link any activity, and there are no minimum activity requirements. That said, please don't take advantage of this to character squat. If you have zero activity on either comm within the last two months, you may be asked to provide proof that you are still playing in the game. Failure to provide proof when asked will result in your character being removed from the game.
It is also on the Rules page, which is in fact an older draft from the game's inception, and has even more strict rules (which I will now change, but this is how they were originally written):
3. Stay reasonably active. While there is no minimum activity requirement, if you go a month without a single tag, you should consider letting the spot go.
Oftentimes, there is no need to specifically announce that I am checking activity, because whenever I do, all players tend to pass. I have had to remove exactly one player since the game started, and the player in question never replied when asked for activity. You can find that particular AC results page here.
Originally, players caught squatting were banned from the game (which was meant to be implied by "removed from the game" as allowing someone to immediately app back in would make no sense), but I chose to be more lenient this month, and they are instead barred from re-apping for two months.
That said, I typically do state on the mod plurk when I am checking activity for a given month, in the form of a reminder about inactivity. This month in particular, the TDM was even posted four days early, and the mod plurk in question included this, giving plenty of opportunity for players to generate activity if they didn't have any:
While Jikan does not require players to submit AC, you must still be active! Players with no recent activity on either comm may be asked to provide proof they are still playing in the game!
Since you mentioned hiatuses, I would like to point out that the Hiatus/Drop page includes this:
If you need to hiatus for more than a month, contact the mod account after replying here!
A player who needs to hiatus for two months (i.e. the period I look at for activity) would just need to contact me beforehand, so I would know what their situation is.
And at the end of the day, Jikan is also my private game, and I have full say over who gets to play here, for whatever reason (including low activity), as stated in the rules:
5. I reserve the right to remove anyone from the game or bar them from joining for any reason.
I'm sorry if this seemed abrupt to you, but I only ask for three comments over the span of two months, in any threads anywhere, no matter how old the thread itself is. If a player is not even doing that, then I'm sorry, they're not actively playing in the game. Squatting is not a huge problem in Jikan, but it is still a problem. And the more characters the game has, the more time it takes for me to moderate it.

I do not believe a mod plurk is an acceptable outlet for disseminating important information. In my opinion, posting official announcements only in optional venues is, at best, irresponsible. It's your game so as you said, you can do what you want to, but I don't like the idea of people who don't diligently check plurk failing to see something that could have been an announcement on the comm. And now I know the requirements- but the fact that I could not find anywhere that stated that you have to have 3 comments in 2 months is its own problem, to me. For me, knowing what to expect is extremely important.
But, as you say. It's your game, and ultimately you are not required to share anything about your game you don't feel like. If it's acceptable to you to keep the information on what to expect hidden, that's your choice. I commented my feedback because it is feedback, after all. I'm glad you plan to be lenient on those who want to stay, and I wish you the best, but I'm not personally comfortable with this and so I think it's time for me to bow out. Good luck with your game, it was fun while I was here.

The 3 comment requirement came from the very same required for Normal Bonus AC, but this is only asked of people who have 0 comments in the comms for two months. I do not specifically look for three comments when I am just checking who is still playing. I will make this more obvious in the FAQ, but I still contend that 3 comments in 2 months is not unreasonable.
