You've seen this before. The thought strikes suddenly, during whatever it is you were doing. Having an important conversation? Running away from home? Dying in the midst of a fierce battle? Where ever you are, one things is true: you're certain this isn't the first time you've lived through this. But upon realizing this, that's when it happens. Like someone hitting rewind on the VCR, you're back where you were ten minutes ago. And it happens again. And again. And again--Until finally, something is different. A door stands in front of you. Will you go through it? Nothing else seems to be working, so this might be your only chance.

Upon opening the door and heading inside, a strange feeling overwhelms you. It's comforting and warm, like being enveloped in a soft, heavy blanket. You hear a voice murmuring in your ear, but it's unintelligible.
And in the next moment, you've appeared in front of a mysterious stone shrine in the middle of a forest, surrounded by the unfamiliar yet worried faces of fox-like humans in red and white robes, speaking in a foreign language that doesn't sound so foreign to you anymore.
Maryouku University

There isn't much time to process what's happening before characters are transported to the nearby Maryouku University. All injuries are completely healed, and those under mental duress will have a powerful soothing spell cast on them to calm them down. Their every need is met: food is offered, and questions are answered. "You've arrived in the Western Kingdom of Nippon, on a planet called Gaia," they explain. "When you became aware of the timeloop, we... well, let us explain."
Orientation Maryouku University, Kyoto
Everyone is brought to a large auditorium, where dozens of other people looking similarly out of place are seated around them. The Kitsune Yokai from before filter on stage, as well as a number of humans and other Yokai in labcoats. And after a brief introduction, they begin to explain. What they experienced back home was a timeloop. While the loops in their home worlds are smaller and likely to resolve on their own, the fact that such a small amount of time is being repeated is what makes them so dangerous for those who become aware of it. And they've been working around the clock, checking adjacent universes for others who've become aware. While the technical explanations may go over the heads of most, that's not the reason they were all brought together like this. "In order to bring you here, we used the very same magic responsible for freeing our world... Kizuna."
And they continue to explain: their own world was trapped in a year long loop for decades, if not longer. Through the use of an ancient form of bonding magic, they bound their world to the present flow of time, allowing it to progress past the timeloop. Or at least, that's how they thought it worked. In truth, Kizuna is very powerful reality-warping magic. And thanks to the powerful bond all refugees now share with the country of Nippon, the magic surrounding them will only continue to evolve.
Until a means of resuming the flow of time back in their home world is found, they'll just have to make due with this one. But not to worry, because Nippon is fully committed to taking care of the refugees!
A Brand New Home Kyoto, Kansai
Once orientation is over, characters will be allowed to choose housing in both Kyoto and Tokyo, enabling them the means of easily living between both cities if they please. These housing options will be fully paid for by the government of Nippon, with the NRL and MRU providing a stipend for food expenses in Tokyo and Kyoto respectively.
In lieu of providing transportation, all refugees will be granted an unlimited rail pass that they can use to travel all across Nippon! As of the beginning of May, express routes connecting Tokyo and Kyoto will be running at all times of day, allowing refugees to freely travel between the Eastern and Western Kingdoms.
Over in Higashiyama, the Love Festival is in full swing at Jishu Shrine. In addition to typical festival foods and fare, visitors may be inclined to try the koiuranai-no-nishi, a pair of stones ten meters apart bearing a legend that says anyone who can cross from one stone to the next with their eyes closed will have all their relationship dreams come true. Unfortunately, some troublemaker has decided to curse one of the stones, causing anyone who attempts the challenge to temporarily fall madly in love with the first person they see when they open their eyes, whether they know them or not!
Over in Gion, a certain movie producer is seeking refugees for minor roles in a dramatic retelling of the mass-kidnapping that took place last year in June. Probably not the nicest way for new refugees to learn about such a traumatic event, but hey-- this guy pays well! Those auditioning will be placed in pairs where they'll need to recite a love confession between two refugees, as one lay dying in the other's arms... which never actually happened. For all the injuries, no refugees actually died back then. But those who can prove themselves with their acting skills might just find themselves invited to be part of the main cast, or even land future roles and enter the realm of showbusiness!
In Uji, preparations are underway for a special ceremony to be conducted later this month, put on by the Emperor himself! Of course, typically "ceremony" is just another way of saying "lavish party" where the Western Emperor is concerned. Regardless, volunteers are needed to help spruce up an old villa for the party itself, where it seems a colony of nyagumo have taken up residence. Thankfully, most appear to be the domesticated variety and can simply be carried outside, but those in charge of the top floor better look out for the wild one, since it's nearly five times the size and venomous.
NRL Time Refugee Support Network
Once they've received their housing assignment, all refugees will be given small handheld devices called magi-tech comms, or magi-comms for short. They're heavier than a conventional smartphone would be, but far sturdier, and powered by the ambient magic that flows through the city. They don't need to be charged, but they won't work outside of cities at all. Upon booting it up, they'll find a message linking them to a special channel for refugees.
#nrl_time_refugee_support - online
Use the following code for your top-level if you'd like! This is how network communication will look for characters in the game until more advanced magi-tech comms become available for characters.
Springtime Lovers

As flowers bloom in the countryside, over in the Western Kingdom, it's time once again for the month of love. Traditionally, it's the month where marriage proposals are made, weddings take place, and couples decide to settle down and start a family.
And in celebration of this beautiful season, numerous festivals and events can be found taking place all over Kyoto. In particular, the Ukiyo district, known for it's patronage to the arts, seems to be intent on drawing in refugees this month.
Archive of our Own Ukiyo, Kyoto
Art has always been known to flourish when times are peaceful, and Nippon is no exception. But one such art is finally gaining a foothold in the west: doujinshi, fanworks based on existing properties and media. And to that end, a special doujinshi festival is taking place at the beginning of the month.
But this is no ordinary doujinshi. This is refugee doujin, which stars well-known refugees and their friends. With thousands of refugees scattered across Nippon, telling tales of worlds far beyond anything the people of Nippon have ever heard of, it's no wonder they've become an object of interest in the eyes of the native people. And while most of the doujin changes names and places around, some are a bit more blatant, borrowing names and appearances wholesale.
But what kind of stories will they find? Perhaps the dramatic exploits of the refugees who were swept away to the land of Bakeneko this past March? Or maybe a steamy romance between a wandering samurai and the son of a powerful shogun? Or maybe the ever present tragedy of being forever separated when one side is forced to leave Nippon? Or, for true connoisseurs, they may even find the booth selling a magical book that automatically illustrates the reader in a random genre of manga, be it romance, fantasy, or pornography.
Honestly a good case could be made that all of this is more than a little invasive and could pass as sexual harassment. There's even some cosplayers! But it's all in good fun, and also thoroughly protected by Nippon's freedom of artistic expression laws. And for those who have just arrived, they'll be able to learn the "true" history of the refugees lives in Nippon so far!
Just be sure to keep an open mind when wandering through the 18+ section.
Fortunate Feelings Ukiyo, Kyoto
Although typically not the most popular tourist destination, as the oldest temple in Kyoto, Koryuu-ji is holding a special exhibition of rare ancient artifacts said to posses fortune telling abilities. Perhaps in a world of magic, this may not seem like a big deal. But this one is rather special -- because in nearly a thousand years, it's never been wrong.
The artifact is actually comprised of a set of small statues: two bodhisattva posed in deep thought, their faces expressionless. But upon being asked a question, a positive answer will cause one statue to smile, and a negative answer will cause the other to cry.
Naturally, there's a limit to what people are allowed to ask, as a power like that could potentially be used to sow chaos. But given the season, most people visiting are doing so for matchmaking purposes: should a pair approach the statues, the response they give will reveal whether or not the pair is compatible. Of course, whether or not this is romantic, familial, or platonic compatibility is rather open to interpretation.
And as a special deal for refugees, they'll each be allowed to ask one question, in addition to having their compatibility with whoever they came with assessed. This could be a friend they've brought along, or a fellow stranger waiting in line who may just be a fated to be with them someday!
But please don't blame the statue for the inevitable messy breakup that it predicts.
Flower Power Ukiyo, Kyoto
With spring in full swing, flowers are blooming all across Nippon. But for those who were present last year, they may see a rather distinct flower they don't recognize. It can be found blooming just about everywhere in Kyoto, with natives occasionally commenting that they've never seen anything like it. And perhaps the most curious thing about them is they only seem to bloom when someone is nearby, the bulbs otherwise snapping shut when they step away.
But for the refugees, they'll notice an additional effect: when giving the flowers a sniff, the petals will gently close over their nose as if giving them a soft kiss. And they smell delightful -- how charming! Surely there's nothing suspicious or dangerous about such cute little flowers, right?
Of course there is, you know where you are.
Upon inhaling the pollen of these pretty little flowers, the Refugees will feel a little light-headed -- but also warm and happy. It creates within them a desire to share that warmth and happiness with others through physical affection. They may find themselves leaning on a stranger's shoulders, gently holding the hand of an acquaintance, or peppering the cheeks of a dear friend with soft kisses. This effect grows stronger the more pollen one inhales, and with just how windy it can get in the city, there's no need to get quite so close to inhale the pollen.
But what it is? Plant, ayakashi, some strange mutation of both? The locals genuinely don't seem to know, and soon, Exorcist clans from across the West begin pouring into the city to better study these strange new flowers. But overall, the general consensus appears to be that they're rather harmless.
Still, just make sure the flower that you sniff isn't actually a Sakebana in disguise. They're known for being a little on the loud side.
OOC Notes
Welcome to Jikan's May TDM! The TDM is considered game canon, and also serves as the intro log! That said, whether you choose to carry threads over to the game or not is up to you!
• Current players are more than welcome to top-level, or take prompts from the TDM and use for their own logs! This may change in the future depending on how busy TDMs become.
• CRAU characters may start regaining their CRAU memories one month after the TDM. However, vague feelings of familiarity are allowed between previous game CR! For more on this, please read the FAQ!
• You do not need to sign-up for housing! Choose whichever style you prefer, in both Kyoto and Tokyo. Roommates can be chosen by the characters or can be random. If you want to switch housing later, your character has the option of moving at the beginning of each month.
• Incoming characters are welcome to find doujinshi about castmates not currently in the setting, with the implication that they may have been in the setting before. Make sure you have permission before finding doujinshi of characters currently in the game.
• The statue's predictions are 100% accurate, but open to interpretation because of how limited the answers are. For instance, the statues are capable of both crying and smiling at the same time for complex situations. That said, please do not intentionally write the statues being wrong.
• The severity of the flower's effects is entirely up to you!
Please leave any questions about the TDM prompts in the thread below! General game questions can be directed to the FAQ!

ayato, who is smiling at him like that and looking completely unbothered by the images he's looking over.
thoma sighs and bows his head, a hand briefly coming up to his own mouth, able to feel how warm his face is. ]
My Lord, I doubt I make faces like this. [ he says it as he flips backwards toward the beginning, trying to figure out if this is all in the same book and only realizing that it's changed entirely, no more soft romance in sight. instead, it seems like a brief setup that gives way to pages upon pages of the two of them getting progressively messier and kinkier.
after a moment, he glances at ayato and nods toward the stack of blank-covered books. ] You should flip through one, too.
no subject
[an utterly salacious comment from ayato all things considered, as it implies that they'd just have to fuck to find out. but he doesn't say it in so many words, mindful of the power dynamics of their titles and roles. though, it seems these books have other things in mind and throw all etiquette out the window and say fuck it fealty kink is hot.
he picks up one of the blank books, and the cover seems to paint itself into another salacious pose with ayato and thoma.]
It seems we're quite popular, hm?
[he's having way too much fun with this. sorry, thoma. but he'd say this is way better than having to fuck in front of a giant penis statue, so this event has that in its favor in his books (comparatively).]
Oh, in this one you're wearing a collar.
no subject
should we find out, my lord?
absolutely not. and it's easy to redirect to the next book, the cover that blooms into view leaving little to the imagination.
of course, his ears still feel as though they're burning as he closes the book he's holding and looks at the one in ayato's hands. the collar is pretty obvious, as is the leash in ayato's hand, pulled tight to clearly draw thoma to him. ]
Is that something you've thought about before? [ the book he's holding isn't exactly anything he's spent time considering between the two of them, but he still finds himself wondering if any of it comes from the thoughts of the person holding it. ]
no subject
[ayato can't help but smile a bit deviously, pulling out a mysterious boba milk tea to sip on as he sets the book down. where did it come from? where does it ever come from? we just don't know. not even a kamisato clan secret, it's an ayato secret. the void of his sleeve is truly a mystery.
(he hasn't though about thoma in collars in the past, but he most certainly wouldn't object if he, say, wanted to suddenly don one on and hand ayato the end of the leash. and he's most certainly going to think about it now. what a tricky little event this turned out to be.)]
Though, since you've been here a day, I'm sure you're aware of what this place would like its refugees todo.
[he gestures at the books. no, not drawing pornographic graphic novels, but instead performing what's in them.]
no subject
in the end, he decides against commenting, mainly because the drink doesn't look questionable. as long as it won't make ayato feel sick after being... wherever it's been, that's all that really matters to him.
it takes a second after that before he registers the comment. ]
Ah, I was actually here before. I was here for some time, then home again, then I was back. [ he glances the books over, chuckling. ] Just in time to go from one festival to another.
But I know what they want us to do, yes. Did you end up on the train, too?
[ knowing both he and ayaka have makes him think that ayato has likely ended up in that position as well. ]
no subject
and it's all about the experience, thoma!! being sick is part of the experience too! when your life is as perfunctory as ayato's a little excitement in his food always brightens his day.]
Oh, is that right. And still so shy?
[he's not being condescending or anything, it's just very cute how thoma can still be so... pure? despite having been in this place before. this place with dicks everywhere, it seems. it's precious and adorable and very much like thoma. he looks at him fondly, adoringly, just so happy to have him here by his side and safe.]
I did - and it was quite an experience. [a little wrinkle in his brow that states he did not particularly enjoy the experience, especially when ayaka arrived and he felt the protective need to cover her eyes.] Have you settled down anywhere? You are of course welcome to stay with me and Ayaka. If you'd like.
no subject
thoma lets out a soft laugh and shakes his head, meeting ayato's gaze. ]
It's a little different with you.
[ it's not like he's that shy or anything, he's a pretty open person. but there's something considerably more intimate about the thought of sex with ayato compared to most others.
he blinks at the expression relating to the train, realizing his own experience on it must've been quite different from both ayato's and ayaka's. ] Mm, that's a good way to describe it. And I have settled with someone else from Teyvat, but I ran into Ayaka earlier, too, and we talked about housing. It would be nice to save for something together, whether it's just to live close to each other or to get a house we can all share.
no subject
[a more insecure man might take that to mean something completely the wrong way, but ayato is confident in his standing with thoma, secure in thoma's loyalty to him. he knows that different here means something - positive? he pulls the meaning apart with the information he has, probes at it thoughtfully.]
Mm, I don't suppose it has to do with your service to the Kamisato clan.
[his eyes take in thoma carefully, the flush that lingers on his cheeks, the look that blooms in his expression after. his heart is on his sleeve, or at least compared to ayato, and that's one of the many things he admires about him. he wonders about how they will handle the demands of this world, how they will navigate with it or around it. thoma is by far the one he trusts the most (besides his sister, but she is... his sister). but this place requires far more than trust.
anyway, he thinks it'll be interesting how it will all play out.]
Yes, I think that would indeed be ideal. I have my preferences, but, ultimately I suppose whatever decision you come to in the end. [aka not coming home to thoma would be Strange and Weird but he GUESSES HE CAN DEAL WITH THOMA LIVING NEXT TO THEM IN THE FUTURE.]
no subject
It has more to do with how close we are and how things from here might reflect on things at home once we return. [ listen, he can't end up distracted every time he comes into contact with ayato once they return home all because he might end up wearing a collar for him here, okay? ayato has enough of an upper hand in teasing him as it is.
but he still isn't against the two of them sleeping together. thoma imagines it just might take some conversations around it, before or after the fact. ]
Your preference? [ he does look a little amused over that, giving ayato a curious look. ] What's your preference, my Lord?
no subject
he puts a hand to his chin in thought, considering thoma's concerns carefully. how things here might impact life back home? if they engaged in such activities as these books depicted and more, he'd suppose at most he'd feel more comfortable being more affectionate with thoma once they were to return home. like, honestly, he doesn't see the downside of getting to kiss thoma. ]
Let's discuss this elsewhere, shall we? [he places a hand on thoma's back, leads them away from the event momentarily. finding a suitably private area bracketed with sakura trees, he faces thoma with honesty.]
I don't think much would change, frankly. In fact, I suppose it might be said we'd be even closer than before. [a small chuckle.] Of course, it takes two to agree to something of this nature. But know that I'm not opposed.
[that Look appears in his eyes and smile again.] In fact, I may be interested in finding out if you can indeed make those faces or not.
[he crosses his arms, now looking the teensiest bit pouty.] I would prefer that you eventually stay with me and Ayaka, of course. It isn't the same without you.
no subject
so when they're alone, thoma listens to what ayato says, blinking at the frank honesty he's given. it's something he appreciates, particularly when it's followed by that Look and the comment that comes with it.
his ears warm a little at that side of things, but thoma takes a breath to avoid giving in to the way ayato clearly likes to fluster him.
thoma feels some concerns regarding himself when it comes to intimacy with those he cares about, but he recognizes that he can't bust himself with concerns that may not even become problems in the future. and with most of them having to do with returning home, he knows that anything he feels at that point should be addressed then instead, not worried over in the present. ]
I agree with you, about things not changing much and about being closer. So, I don't think there's a need to hold back unless something changes. [ feelings for one another or other people, mainly. but he laughs afterward, ears still quite warm. ]
If you'd like to find out, we can try.
[ he doesn't go too deep into that, instead watching the ever so slight pouting and smiling at the sight, endeared. after a moment, he reaches out and cups ayato's face for a second, just long enough to briefly brush his thumb against the corner of his mouth as if trying to get his smile to return. ] I imagine I might. The friend I'm staying with right now doesn't remember his last time here, but he should recall things. When he does, I believe there's a place waiting for him, so I might be with you after that.
no subject
Thank you Thoma. You're dear to me - more than I can say. If anything does change, do not be afraid to reach out to me. I'll listen as always.
[ayato is a little surprised when thoma caresses his face, but eventually leans into it, a smile blossoming not too long after. seems your little trick worked, thoma.]
Excellent. I'm not exaggerating when I say things aren't the same without you. [thoma's laughter, the smell of whatever thoma's making for dinner, thoma brewing tea, thoma's smile as bright as a swarm of fireflies-] And it's not just because Ayaka's not quite as thorough in her tidying as you. [a joke- because ayaka's cleaning is just fine, ayato's the messy one leaving his shit everywhere.] Your company is the warm flame that Ayaka and I yearn for.
[sorry he's like this.]
no subject
Of course. If anything changes for you, the same can be said. I'm sure you know you don't have to hold anything back from me.
[ just like he knows he doesn't need to hold back from ayato. the touch is, of course, fairly bold given that it's not something he typically does. but if they'll eventually find themselves in bed together, he sees little point in hiding how much he cares about ayato.
and the smile is enough to make thoma smile as well, fondness in it as he hears what's said, though the comment about ayaka does get a laugh. ] My Lord.
[ the final comment, though, is what makes him pause, a soft, amused snort following as thoma grins. ] Ah, you say things like that with such a straight face...
[ he shakes his head in amusement, just happy to find himself in ayato's company again. ] Should we get back to browsing? Or would you like to find something else to do?
no subject
[ayato is not a man of dawdling - he'd rather resolve a problem right then and there rather than letting it fester and become a worse problem later. of course, not that he thinks thoma or anything involving thoma would ever become such a drastic thing as to become an issue, but it's simply an ingrained habit he carries with him even outside of work.
he smiles at the little jab at his very poetic words, laughing. come now, it was incredibly heartfelt and beautifully worded, right? where's kazuha to appreciate it with him.]
Yes, let's. Perhaps we can go back and purchase one of those books.
no subject
with a grin at the laugh, thoma nods and leads the way back over toward the stand they left. as flustered as he'd been by standing next to ayato and looking over the contents of what showed up in the books they picked up, he doesn't mind returning to it. the thought of buying one of the books does make him wonder if it can change after being purchased or if purchasing somehow makes it stay as is. ]
What if the next one shows a collar around your neck, my Lord? [ it's just a teasing comment, one made as thoma pauses and looks at the stacks of blank covers once more, glancing at ayato. ] Would you like the honors?
no subject
[ayato picks up a book - and lo and behold, it's like it heard thoma's suggestion and it is indeed ayato with a collar looking uncharacteristically... affected is the way ayato can describe the expression on the illustrated ayato's face. the way he appears to be flushed and crying, ayato is confused as to what sort of genre this book is.
curiously he opens it, only to find... more of the same illustrations as the earlier books, only with him on the bottom. He sighs in disappointment.]
This isn't nearly as appealing as the previous books. What do you think, Thoma? You looked much cuter in the collar, in my personal opinion.
no subject
the sight is one he's clearly never seen before and he blinks in surprise, watching as ayato opens it and staring at the pages he has it open to, glancing over at the question. ]
Ah... well, collar aside, if you ever want to try something like that with someone you trust... [ his ears are red again, but he still smiles over at ayato, wondering where the line should be drawn at things he says so openly to him. ] I wouldn't make you cry, my Lord.
no subject
There's no one I trust more, Thoma. [his dead hydro fish eyes seem to glimmer with some kind of mischief.] And I'd trust no one else to hold the other end of my leash.
[he smiles something mysterious and goes back to the book, shutting it and choosing another. he was the one to suggest buying one of these books, sure, but he doesn't want to stare at his own crying face over, what? he still doesn't really know what his illustrated self is crying over. dick? ridiculous.]
Perhaps you ought to pick something instead.
no subject
[ admittedly, thoma doesn't imagine ayato being the type to cry during sex, but he still wouldn't try to make him. and the fact that he admits that he'd let him hold the other end of his leash makes thoma smile, though he also can't imagine putting a collar on ayato in the first place.
the smile isn't something he misses, nor is the brief look in his eyes, but thoma finds himself chuckling as ayato puts the book back. it's understandable that he might not want to purchase that one. he's not sure he'd find himself buying it either, though just mainly because he doesn't want to imagine ayato's response to pleasure is tears.
at the prompting, thoma glances over blank covers and picks one up again, the cover blossoming into thoma sandwiched between ayato and... ayato, though one of them is considerably more shiny and translucent than the other. he stares down at it for a second before opening it up, just taking a second as he looks down at the pages he flips into. ] That's not even possible...
[ he glances at ayato, ears very red now, pointing at the way he's being fucked by both ayato and the hydro clone he creates. ] It's not, right?
no subject
when thoma picks up the next book, ayato looks as well. the illustration is quite interesting, and he puts his hand to his chin in thought. can he do this sort of thing with his hydro clone? he's never had reason to test it, but this book gives him some pause.
he looks over at thoma, his expression once again fashioned into a mysterious smile.]
I wonder. [fufufu.] Perhaps we ought to purchase this one for further research.
no subject
though he does question if he should trust that much when he sees the look on ayato's face. he still doesn't think the clone can do the things shown, but he finds himself passing the book over to him, giving him a curious look. ]
If you can make your clone do that, you can make it do anything. [ is he considering how the clone might be good for manual labor? yes. does it come across like that? maybe not. ] I think we should see what you can get it to do.
[ definitely not. ]
no subject
My clones don't last very long in general. [but he doesn't sound too put off, because-] Though I've heard this place has its own magic. Perhaps partaking in it would strengthen the powers granted to me by my vision. It's worth looking into, I think.
[he pays for the book - he didn't forget his wallet this time! - and looks pleased with himself.]
Who knows all the benefits having my clones around can bring.
no subject
he watches as the book is paid for, giving ayato a long look. ]
I'm going to teach them to do dishes. [ thoma refuses to consider the benefits that might involve himself sandwiched between ayato and his clone for now. he'd prefer not cutting his time with ayato short and he feels like he might have to if he thinks about the contents of the book for too long.
with a tilt of his head, thoma motions toward the rest of the stands. ] Did you want to look around at anything else?
no subject
clones, though, do what they're told. so maybe?]
It'll be the closest I can get to being halfway competent in what you do, Thoma.
[ayato nods. since they're here, why not enjoy the rest of the event? especially since it doesn't seem quite as bad as the giant penis festival that occurred when he arrived.]
Let's see what else this place has to offer, hm? Perhaps we can pick up a few more interesting books along the way.
no subject
That's not true. You could become competent, but there's no reason to ask that of you. I'm here and it's work I like doing.
[ having the clones to help would just be like having some of the other help that exists around the estate at home. then again, he's sure that they aren't living in a home that large here, either.
with the nod, thoma starts to walk toward some of the other stands, staying at ayato's side. ] By interesting, do you mean more books to give you ideas?
[ he glances over at him, both amused and curious. ] You're not still thinking about a collar, are you?
