[Despite their translucent state in spots, the tentacles are quite solid. They're soft, maybe a bit rubbery and squishy, though they are somewhat what and slimy to the touch. Anyone who can see different types of light, or magic, could at least tell that the tentacles are not part of his body, even if they're an extension off him.

The water is home to many monsters. It's just another one of them. Don't worry though-- the white sea monster sometimes helps brave sailors.
